Write yourself a Million Dollar check

A few years back, a friend of mine shared me a video of Jim Carrey's interview about how he struggled as a young actor long before his breakout role in the Ace Ventura movie. He was quite broke financially but he had a strong belief that he would one day make it although he didn't have much money while trying to survive in Hollywood. During this difficult time in his life he wrote himself a check -  $10 million and dated it for Thanksgiving 1995. He put that in is wallet believing that one day he will make this much money and worked hard for it. The rest is basically history and he was paid $10 million for the movie Dumb and Dumber before Thanksgiving 1995.

This also reminded me the second Habit in Stephen Covey's The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People - Begin With the End in Mind. Basically this means using your mind to envision and visualize your end goal and what you want to achieve in life . Jim Carrey's story was so inspiring to me that I created my own $1-million check, dated it 31st Dec 2025 and signed it with my own signature.

I will usually view back this check once in awhile to remind myself of this target which I'd like to achieve by Dec 2025. Even if I don't reach it by that date, I know that I am working hard to attain it and this helps to motivate me to remain disciplined in my investing and money management using the money JAR system.

This check can be any amount that you may feel comfortable as long it is something that you believe in. For me $1-million check is the amount that I feel that realistically I could achieve by the end of 2025. Once I have achieved  $1-million, it will be easier to go for my next milestone which is $3-million (using the magic of compounding interest),  so I will be writing a new check by then.

Sell Put Spread Strategy on SPY To Generate Monthly Income

I was introduced into the world of Options Trading when I joined a Value Investing Course by a stock investing guru named  Sean Seah . One was the strategies I learned from this course is called VIOS (Value Investing Option Strategy). This strategy aims to consistently make money by selling naked put options to collect premiums on fundamentally good stocks with minimal risk (worst case scenario you are forced to buy that stock if your option is exercised). Anyway I won't be talking too much about the Fundamentals of Options as you can find many free videos of these on YouTube and paid courses on Udemy. I have been selling mostly naked put options to collect premium for 4 years using the ThinkOrSwim platform and I was collecting good premiums making some small profit. One strategy I used was to keep rolling my option if it went In-The-Money (ITM) on expiration day . However I discovered that  there is a huge risk involved with this Naked Selling Option Strategy even when...

The TOP 3 DOs and DONTs To Be a Successful Investor

Many times we ask ourselves "Why do some people make money easily while I have a difficult time doing so?". I already have a few friends who are making tons of money after huge investment in crypto and I have another friend who has made tons of money in options trading. I am still struggling and I have been asking myself why. What am I lacking compared to them? I believe it is the amount of effort and time that my friends have placed to master the art of trading and investing -that make them successful. They will only focus on one thing and continue to sharpen that skills and knowledge relevant to that instead of jumping from one to another. For my case I have dabbled in the futures market, day trading, options, some crypto....all with mild or no success.  It is time for a change.  I have to put in more effort to be a more of a successful investor. knowledge without action is meaningless. We must Do the right things and DONT Do some things that may hinder our progress to be s...

What are the Different Levels of FiRe ?

FiRe (Financial Independence / Retire Early)  is a movement where a person has to adopt to a certain lifestyle with the goal of gaining Financial Independence and Retiring Early. I only got to know of this movement a few years ago after watching a video on Graham Stephen's Youtube channel.  Just like Graham Stephen, I started adapting a frugal and savings lifestyle when I was young but there wasn't a name for this until  Fi/Re  was made famous. I got serious about Saving To Retire Early about 10 years ago after attending T Harv Eker's Millionaire Mindset seminar . I learned about the JAR system from the seminar and I have been practicing it without fail for the past 10 years. I am proud to say this has helped me tremendously to achieve my financial freedom goal. T Harv Eker has a book called " Secrets of the Millionaire Mind: Mastering the Inner Game of Wealth " which I highly recommend.  I wrote an article about the Money JAR System which you can read by c lic...
